journey to joining litmag

in my sophomore year, my literature teacher recommended that i join litmag–he had seen me doodling on every single class assignment i was given in his class, and thought it would be a fitting position for me to look into. i looked at that year’s magazine (“Concrete”) and found immediate interest. i fell in love with all of the colors, themes, and layouts, and i immediately found out how to apply. one google form and a quick interview later, i was on the 2022-2023 staff!

perks of being a staff member

one of the first things i was looking forward to in litmag was seeing all of the student submissions. each artist or writer has a message they want to get across in their pieces, but it can be so scary to share these pieces. art often comes from a very vulnerable place—it can be scary to share that part of yourself with other people. i think the muse gives students a place to share these pieces without fear, and it has the ability to unify and recognize artists from all over the school. i love that, in litmag, i have the opportunity to help spread other people’s ideas, dreams, fears, themes, and i’m really looking forward to embracing that in this year’s magazine :)
