The Long Answer ?
It has been confirmed by countless studies and scientists that cartoons have the effect of increasing creativity in children. “Through visual learning,” one psychologist explains, “can children open the creative side of their brain.” It can start out simple— the animation, colors, and vivid depictions cause kids to take an interest in drawing simple shapes like lines and circles. Lines and circles lead to greater interest in drawing, leading to greater interest in the arts—all with cartoons as the initial catalyst. Acting even further than the visual appeal, however, is the narrative one. Storytelling is a crucial cornerstone for the development of imagination, and cartoons are packed full of new experiences. A flying house? Sure, that sounds cool! A talking dragon? Anything’s possible! Instead of locking a child’s imagination to the confines of reality, letting them run wild frees their mind— a perfect cultivating ground for the arts to take root.

Along with the obvious effect of increasing an individual’s creativity, cartoons have a more general impact as well. Cartoons are raising the next generation of artists and thinkers. Often being the first experience with media children interact with, cartoons are the first outlet of creativity kids can invest their time in; the first artistic endeavors they experience through animation; the first opportunity to develop morals and ethics. We often think that the artist makes the art— but in this case, the art (cartoons) makes the artist.
