My Story

For many individuals, jewelry is a way to express one’ s identity, whether it be culture, religion, or personal quirks.

I was introduced to jewelry when my mom gifted me a duck necklace for my 7th birthday. I wore the necklace all the time at school, until the duck fell off when I was running in middle school P.E. To me, that necklace represented one of my unique quirks - my favorite animal is a duck.

My interest in jewelry developed when I resided in Turkey this past summer. I explored the local shopping mall almost everyday, and I would always stop by the jewelry store. There were so many bracelets and necklaces to look at for eternity, and I was fascinated by the different designs.

TV shows, fashion magazines, and other forms of popular media have also sparked my interest in jewelry.

Q&A with the Jeweler

  • There’s always something new to learn and so many different type of mediums and techniques that it’s easy to blend them and making something new.

  • I’ve been making jewelry since middle school and I learned by just searching online for tutorials and taught myself how to make them.

  • My favorite type are earrings but my favorite ones to make are rings and necklaces.

Samantha Perry

Next up, we have Samantha (Sam) Perry!!!

Sam is Co-President of the Finer Things Club, student in Mrs. Clawson’ s AP art class, advocate for red pandas, and fruit enthusiast. Not only does she come to school with amazing outfits, but she also wears marvelous jewelry that I can’t take my eyes off of.

Learn about her work!

  • I made jewelry using materials from Jewels 4 Jewels, our school’s jewelry club.

  • I like fun earrings. My favorite pieces are the food ones (like the cherry pie earring).

  • Jewelry is easy to customize and doesn’t take much effort, compared to styling hair. It allows me to express my fun and easygoing side.

  • I find jewelry's importance in its ability to express its wearer's thoughts, emotions, and ideas. It can communicate things that sometimes words cannot get across and continues to mirror our growth as a society.
