I stand where twilight stains the breathing sea,
and watch the tide unmake the patient shore;
a darker pulse keeps calling out to me,
from caverns none have measured or explored.
the salted wind grows distant in my ears,
as if the world were folding far away;
the drowning hush dissolves my lesser fears,
and draws my restless, earthly weight to sway.
beneath the glass of fractured moonlit foam,
I dream of pressure closing soft and slow;
the deep appears to me a truer home,
where heavy currents hush the thoughts, I know.
let me sink where cold and quiet blend,
and find within that fall my truest end.
